About the Role - Exciting New Role The Maintenance Technician plays an integral role in South Australia to ensure our vessels are operating at optimum levels. This role is responsible for supporting the two Kangaroo Island Ferries. In 2026, we are welcoming 2 brand new ferries to our KI Ferry Service. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced maintenance technician to join our team in a newly created role to support our operation. This role will be based in Cape Jervis. Reporting to the Shore Based Maintenance Supervisor, you will be responsible for ensuring efficient maintenance and repairs are undertaken for our vessels. You will be required to confidently repair, troubleshoot and manage issues as they arise. This role will ensure all marine compliance is adhered to, diagnosing and rectifying engineering issues, and undertaking preventative maintenance schedules. About You A confident and experienced technician with a minimum 2 years’ experience, preferably in the Marine industry (but not essential), you will have sound knowledge of mechanical issues and advanced knowledge of fitting and turning, hydraulics and other systems. A trade qualification in Mechanical or Electrical skills is essential, and comprehensive knowledge of marine vessel machinery, especially marine diesel engines, will be beneficial. A restricted electrical license will compliment your experience. Welding experience will also be beneficial. You will need to build relationships with the ferry crew and external contractors. If you are self-motivated, results-driven, organised, and focused on continuous improvement, this role could be for you. Some out-of-hours work may be required for breakdowns; therefore, living on or around the Fleurieu Peninsula will be highly beneficial. TOIL benefits will apply. Key Qualifications: - Mechanical or electrical trade qualification (essential)
- Working at heights (beneficial)
- Forklift licence (beneficial)

- MED 1 or 2 (beneficial)
