 About Us

 

The PS Murray Princess is the largest inland paddle wheeler in the Southern Hemisphere.  Accommodating a maximum of 120 guests and operating 3, 4 and 7-night cruises on the Murray River from Mannum, 87 kilometres from Adelaide, this stunning vessel attracts guests from all over Australia and the world and operates all year round.

 

About the role

 

This is a key leadership role ensuring the daily efficient operation of the P.S. Murray Princess, reporting to the Marine Operations Manager. You will be responsible for maintaining excellence in safety and providing an exceptional experience for our guests.

 

The primary function of this role is the safe and secure navigation of the vessel, ensuring the health and safety of all passengers and crew onboard is maintained. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring the ship's crew and passengers are aware of planned emergency procedures, observing all company policy and procedures, and adhering to Marine and Environmental guidelines. You will be required to manage and lead the ongoing and annual ship maintenance program to ensure acceptable levels of seaworthiness.

 

The roster rotation for this position is 14 days on/14 days off, and you may be required to work outside of these hours on occasions during periods of annual leave and maintenance requirements. Please note this position is not a fly-in/fly-out arrangement.

 

The Captain is expected to meet and exceed key performance indicators, whilst displaying a high level of work ethic and leadership across the vessel.

 

About You

  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role
  • Excellent mentoring, leadership and coaching skills
  • Reporting: daily, weekly, and monthly
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Systematic reasoning
  • Excellent conflict resolution and management skills

These key requirements for this role include:

  • Master Inland Waters with greater than 80m endorsement (Master Class 4 – RMIW) or a higher level Certificate of Competency - ESSENTIAL
  • Elements of Shipboard Safety - Essential
  • Driver’s Licence
  • Current Senior First Aid with updted CPR - Essential
  • Certificate in Frontline Management or equivalent - Essential
  • Previous leadership experience - Essential
  • Experience in the Tourism Industry – Beneficial
  • Experience in liaising with suppliers and contractors – Beneficial
  • Excellent navigational and boat handling skills - Essential
  • Sound knowledge of Marine Compliance - Essential

Uniforms, meals and onboard accommodation are included when rostered to work. Transport from Adelaide CBD to Mannum on boarding days is available at no cost.
