The PS Murray Princess is the largest inland paddle wheeler in the Southern Hemisphere.  Accommodating a maximum of 120 guests and operating 3, 4 and 7 night cruises on the Murray River from Mannum, 87 kilometres from Adelaide, this stunning vessel attracts guests from all over Australia and the world.

We are providing an opportunity for an individual interested in progressing from a Deck Hand to a qualified Engineer on the Murray Princess. This role will support and assist the Engineer. 

We will support your training, development, and financial support to cover the costs of completing the Coxswain Certificate and Marine Engine Driver 2 (MED2) qualification, under a training agreement, providing you meet the criteria.

The successful applicant will need to commit to obtaining and completing their Coxswain Certificate followed by the MED2 qualification to continue and remain in this role.

• Coxswains Grade 1 NC - or equivalent - Beneficial 
• Elements of Shipboard Safety - Essential

• Confined spaces qualification - Desirable
• Working at heights qualification - Desirable

Expanding on the Deck Hand role

The Deck Hand (Coxswain) is an integral part of the safe operations of the Murray Princess. The primary function of this role is to maintain high-quality guest service, maintenance of vessel presentation, ropes, paintwork, and stores, and assist with passenger and deck loading operations. 

The Deck Hand (Coxswain) is a dynamic, hands-on role. Responsibilities include the provision of guest services and duties relevant to the vessel's operations. This includes but is not limited to, moorings and departures, going through locks or docking, and performing general cleaning and maintenance duties throughout the vessel, including decks, breezeways, toilets, lounges, onshore facilities, and storage and engine spaces.

All meals and accommodation on board the Murray Princess when rostered on duty are included, plus transport to and from Adelaide CBD.
