About the Role

SeaLink Hayman Island currently hold the contract for providing luxury transfers to and from Hayman Island. The master position onboard is that of a manager responsible for both the safety of the crew, passengers and vessel as well as the guest experience. The vessels are maintained to an exceptionally high standard in line with our contractual requirements. The master is responsible for both the deckhand and other host staff provided to act in a guest experience capacity. The role is responsible for the vessel record keeping using multiple systems and the training and induction of new crew to the operation.

Seeking continuous improvement in all maintenance, presentation, and operational capacities in alignment with both the expectations of Hayman Island and SeaLink. 

 

About You

You will have excellent vessel handling skills, a keen eye for detail and a willingness to learn and be part of a team. To be successful in this position you must have an approachable attitude and disposition be prepared to speak to guests of a 5-star level and show good experience in managing conflict and crew. As the first and last contact with guests you will be approachable and engaging while also being technically minded and prepared to ensure the vessel is a representation of you as a master.

 A flexible approach to working hours is required regarding weekends and public holidays. Some heavy lifting and exposure to varying weather conditions are applicable.

This position primarily is based on the mainland completing a 4/3 roster, there is a minimum requirement to stay 2 nights per roster on the island which may change as the needs of operation evolve.

 

The successful applicant will need the following:

  • Display leadership qualities including effective communication, team-building and training, motivation, problem-solving, time management, delegation techniques 
  • A commitment to delivering a 5-star service and guest experience 
  • Work efficiently and effectively under pressure
  • An understanding of maintenance and marine mechanical, particularly inboard diesel 
  • Adopt a flexible and adaptable approach to the role
  • Safe approach to vessel operations with a passion for preserving the environment.
  • Unrestricted Master V MED III or MED II with two years minimum experience in open water
  • Radio Operators Certificate 
  • Responsible service of alcohol
  • Senior First Aid certification, CPR and Oxygen
  • Current drivers licence
  • The ability to accommodate the required roster.
  • Ideally able to commence Early/Mid December
