ABOUT THE ROLE

Transit Systems are currently looking to engage a full time Trades Assistant. These positions will see you working at our Hoxton Park and Smithfield depots  within a well-established maintenance team.

This role will see you support trades personnel in a repair, refurbishment workshop. This position would suit a candidate looking for an entry level position as a TA in mechanical workshops.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

  • Assists engineering staff with routine servicing of bus fleet
  • Assists engineering staff with unscheduled repairs and maintenance. 
  • Assists engineering staff when attending breakdowns and performs required repairs to enable bus to be returned to depot.
  • Assists engineering staff with completing bi-annual pre-inspection of vehicles for TSW and TfNSW.
  • Assists engineering staff with completing servicing of workshop equipment as required.
  • Adheres to relevant company policies and procedures relating to Health and Safety, Quality Assurance, Equal Opportunity and other aspects of the business.
  • Carries out bus driving duties as and when required by supervisors within the yard.
  • Ensures working areas are kept clean and maintain proper House Keeping.
  • Manoeuvres tools, materials and working equipment’s to and from work sites or within workshop.
  • Assists in performing Mechanical Operations as required by the Workshop Manager.
  • Any other duties as required.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Possession of minimum Medium Rigid’ class vehicle licence
  • Valid NSW Driver Licence if required to drive a Bus.
  • General knowledge of HSEQ and Welfare regulations.
  • Knowledge of workshop procedures;
  • Basic numeracy skills, having the ability to use these skills with weight, volume and distance measurements.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision;
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, memos, general correspondence and apply the knowledge of a reasonable person to carry out instructions;

HIGHLY DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • Training towards qualification or qualification in relevant trade Certificate or related fields.
  • Previous mechanical experience;
  • Skills and knowledge to fulfil the role requirements.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn and develop.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and within a team.
