About The Role


Responsible to the Master to assist in the operation and maintenance of Vehicle and Passenger Vessels in a safe, efficient and professional manner.


Working in close conjunction with all crew, key duties for a casual deckhand will include:

  • Assisting with safe daily operations of the vessel.
  • Identify and notify Master/Operations of safety concerns and assist with implementation to prevent incidents.
  • Participate and contribute to emergency response plans.
  • Monitor and organise vehicle/passenger loading in line with procedure ensuring a safe process and keeping to scheduled departure times.
  • Assist Master in discharge of their daily function as required.
  • Responsible for general maintenance and cleanliness of the of the vessel.
  • Securely moor the vessel at each pontoon, coil mooring lines neatly at the completion of each trip and inspect and splice mooring lines when required.
  • Carry out deck patrols during shift and ensure the vessel is protected from being damaged when in its berth.
  • Manage ticket sales and checks ensuring compliance.

  • Be available to work at short notice as operational needs arise.
  • Prepared to work shift work, weekends and public holidays.
  • Be well presented and possess a professional attitude at all times.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Certificate in Elements of Shipboard Safety
  • Certificate in Senior First Aid
  • Holds a minimum of a recreational boat licence if required
