About The Role

Fraser Island Barges is looking for individuals with a strong work ethic and proven leadership skills to join their marine crew!

 

As the Master your role is the safe and efficient operation and navigation of Company vessels, ensuring the vessel maintains compliance with all relevant policies. You are also responsible for passenger safety, the verification of and compliance with the Safety Management System on board, and for crew performance. This exciting position requires a person who is energetic, motivated and loves being out at sea! 

 

Responsibilities & Duties

The Master <45m responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure we provide exceptional customer service, exceeding guests needs and service expectations by providing an enjoyable transfer of passengers, resort guests and cargo to and from K’gari – (Formerly Fraser Island), in a safe and informative manner while providing in depth interpretative information.
  • Conduct all required safety drills and training with crew 
  • Conduct engine maintenance: pre/post-departure checks, fault reporting and assist with scheduling of vessel servicing.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of maritime regulations and always ensure compliance.
  • Prepare reports and documentation as required by company policies and regulatory bodies.
  • Monitor and maintain the vessel's equipment, safety systems, and emergency procedures.

  • A passion for marine industry and for K’gari and its eco marine surrounds
  • Ability to work across a broad rostering system, over a 7-day working week
  • An appreciation of the natural environment and its wildlife
  • Be confident and a great public speaker and communicator
  • Ability to work in varied weather conditions
  • Exhibits people management skills and understands cultural diversity
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a close team environment
  • Dynamic personality with the ability to provide an exceptional level of service to guests
  • Immaculate grooming and presentation
  • Great time management skills and the ability to produce and manage a superior product/service under pressure

  • Flexibility and reliability
  • Interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Reliable, flexible, honest with a positive attitude
  • Able to work unsupervised and make decisions within set guidelines
  • Treats problems or identifies potential problems promptly, aiming for minimal guest dissatisfaction 

Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate will have previous experience as a Master <45m which is essential for the role and hold the following:

  • Hold a current Master less than 45m Licence
  • Hold a current Marine Engine Driver 2 Licence
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate (or able to obtain one if successful)
  • Current Driver's Licence
  • Any previous tourism qualifications will be highly regarded (but not essential)
