Data Engineer

About the Role

 

The Data Engineer is responsible for the discovery, preparation and presentation of data that provides the decision-makers in the Kelsian Group and its subsidiaries with accurate information and meaningful insights.

 

Duties

  • Strategic Alignment: Ensure that all work supports the strategic goals of the Data & Analytics team and Technology department.

  • Data Source Integration: Identify and integrate data from various in-house and third-party sources, designing effective data collection and transformation patterns.

  • Data Modelling and Insights: Develop and follow data modelling patterns to create curated models for end users, generating insights and identifying trends from data sets.

  • Reporting and Maintenance: Maintain and update reports and dashboards for diverse users, ensuring accessibility and usability for operational staff, project teams, and senior management.

  • Collaboration and Coaching: Work with business users to gather requirements and translate them into data needs; coach and support end users and data professionals across the organisation.

  • Operational Excellence: Monitor data quality, resolve issues identified through IT Service Management tools, and contribute to process improvements while optimising resource use for cost efficiency.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to identify trends and patterns in complex data sets, facilitating informed decision-making.

  • Database and Transformation Proficiency: Expertise in database technologies and data transformation methodologies, ensuring effective data handling.

  • Programming Skills: Proficient in SQL and competent with Python (or other programming languages) for data manipulation and analysis.

  • Requirements Gathering: Skilled in gathering requirements and using workflow and development lifecycle tools to ensure project success.

  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in work, ensuring data quality and integrity through meticulous attention to detail.

  • Collaborative Mindset: Strong team player who works well with others, contributing to a collaborative environment while supporting ongoing professional development.

  • Tertiary qualification in numerical, analytical, or computational disciplines (or equivalent experience).

  • Two or more years experience of working with data and/or analytics in a corporate environment, ideally within the passenger transport, tourism, or corporate finance industries.
