Senior Ranger
Kingfisher Bay Resort, K'gari (Fraser Island)

The Opportunity 

Kingfisher Bay Resort is a 4 Star Eco Tourism Hotel Resort, respected for its high standard of service and social facilities. The Senior Ranger supports the operational leadership of the ranger team and plays a critical role in delivering outstanding guest experiences, environmental education, and wildlife care on K’gari.

 

Kingfisher Bay Resort is currently seeking a Senior Ranger to join our team. If you are outgoing, enthusiastic and passionate about sharing your knowledge of the environment and are experienced in operational leadership then we would like to hear from you! 

 

About the Role

The Senior Ranger role involves supervising daily ranger activities, responding to wildlife incidents, liaising with external agencies such as Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, and leading a wide variety of eco-tourism and educational programs. Environmental interpretation is a key aspect of this position, involving the communication of diverse topics related to the island’s fauna, flora, ecology, history, and culture.

 

The Senior Ranger also ensures the efficient running of department operations, including staff rostering, equipment maintenance, and safety procedures, contributing directly to Kingfisher Bay Resort’s reputation as a world-class eco-tourism destination.

 

Additionally, delivering outstanding customer service by anticipating guest needs and surpassing service expectations. The position will assist the front office team with bookings and inquiries, ensuring guests have the essential information to enhance their stay at the resort.

 

The ideal candidate resides locally and has the willingness and ability to commute to the island for work. This is a full-time position, working across a broad rostering system, over 10 day working fortnight including peak seasonal periods and weekends. Overnight stays in staff village quarters will be required.

Skills, Qualification & Experience

To be successful in this role you will need to be comfortable with public speaking, a team player, well presented, enjoy working outdoors and adapting to variable weather conditions.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a Ranger/guiding supervisor role in a similar environment (preferred)
  • Degree in Environmental Sciences, Animal Ecology, Marine Sciences, Outdoor Education or similar is highly regarded.
  • First aid & CPR or ability to obtain within 1 month of commencement
  • Queensland Paid Blue Card (working with children check clearance) or ability to obtain within 1 month of commencement
  • A valid manual QLD Driver’s License
  • Industry Authority (Drivers Authorisation) highly regarded or ability to obtain within 3 months of commencement
  • Right to live and work in Australia indefinitely
  • Commercial acumen with focus on achievement of budget parameters and cost-effective and efficient operations
