Engineer & Master
SeaLink Marine & Tourism - Tasmania
SeaLink Bruny Island — part of the Kelsian Group, Australia’s largest integrated land and marine transport company — is seeking skilled and motivated Masters and Engineers to join our team operating the iconic Bruny Island Ferry service.
About the Role
We’re looking for experienced marine professionals to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our vessels between Kettering and Bruny Island. We’re looking for talented maritime professionals who share our passion for safety, service, and teamwork.
Master <45m
As the most senior person aboard, the Master is responsible for the overall safe and efficient operation of the vessel — from navigation and crew leadership to customer experience and operational compliance. You will:
Command and navigate the vessel in line with company procedures, maritime regulations, and local conditions.
Manage crew performance, ensuring all team members are trained, supported, and performing safely.
Oversee all passenger and vehicle loading and disembarkation, maintaining a smooth and efficient flow while upholding SeaLink’s safety standards.
Monitor weather, schedules, and service disruptions, ensuring clear communication with management and passengers.
Maintain accurate records, reports, and compliance with the vessel’s Safety Management System (SMS).
This is a hands-on leadership role that combines maritime expertise with customer service excellence, ensuring every passenger enjoys a safe, reliable, and memorable journey.
Engineer - MED 2
As an Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of the vessel’s engines and mechanical systems. You will:
Monitor, operate, and maintain machinery in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and company procedures.
Carry out preventative maintenance and record all work in the MEX maintenance system to ensure optimal vessel performance.
Identify, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical issues to minimise downtime.
Oversee fuel transfers and bunkering operations in compliance with environmental standards.
Maintain the engine room’s cleanliness, organisation, and safety at all times.
Assist with deck operations including loading, mooring, and passenger services when required.
This role is essential in ensuring the vessel operates smoothly and safely every day — keeping our fleet reliable and our service dependable.
Dual ticket holders (Master <45m / MED 2) are highly regarded — but we also welcome applications from qualified individuals for either position.
About You
You’re a safety-focused maritime professional with a passion for delivering exceptional service and teamwork on the water. You take pride in maintaining high operational standards and thrive in a hands-on role where no two days are the same. Whether you’re leading a crew or maintaining critical systems, you bring reliability, initiative, and a strong commitment.
