We are delivering a fabulous, expanded service to beautiful Kangaroo Island with extra crossings on a daily basis.  As a result, we are recruiting marine specialists to support this service.  Enjoy operating and supporting 2 Brand new ferries with state-of-the-art equipment is an an added bonus.

 

About the Role

 

The Mate is responsible for deck maintenance and assisting with loading operations, ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and Safe Ship Management processes and principles. Oversee staff performance and crew training and development. 

 

Exceptional interpersonal skills with a high level of organisation are essential to this role. It is also a requirement to have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

A sound knowledge of the vessel is essential to all aspects of this role. You will be working in close conjunction with the Ships’ Master.

 

The Mate will be expected to meet and exceed key performance indicators, whilst displaying a high level of work ethics. Uniforms are provided and accommodation is available whilst on swing. 

 

This role requires leadership, energy, commitment, initiative, teamwork, multi-skilling, and time management.  The roster is 7 days on and 7 days off, 10 hours per day. Overtime will be available to cover leave requirements.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Elements of Shipboard Safety
  • First Aid with CPR
  • Master less than 24m NC Certificate of Competency
  • Experience in the Marine Industry
  • National Police Clearance - ESSENTIAL

These key requirements will be complimented by experience and skills in the following areas:

  • Marine Engine Driver Grade 1 - Desirable
  • Forklift and HR Licence - Desirable
  • Previous leadership experience - Desirable
  • Experience in liaising with suppliers and contractors - Desirable
