About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Workshop Manager to lead the safe, efficient and compliant operation of our Newton depot workshop.

Reporting to the Area Manager, this role is responsible for ensuring fleet maintenance and repairs are completed to statutory, company and manufacturer standards so vehicle availability meets operational requirements. You will lead workshop operations, drive safety and compliance outcomes, support continuous improvement, and work closely with depot and operational stakeholders to keep our passenger bus fleet running reliably.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day operation of the workshop to maximise fleet availability and reliability
• Plan, schedule and prioritise preventative maintenance, defect repairs and breakdown response
• Ensure all vehicles are maintained in line with manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements
•  Monitor vehicle defects, downtime and workshop performance, and implement corrective actions where needed
• Lead, motivate and develop workshop staff to build a high-performing, safety-focused team
• Manage employee performance, induction, probation, training and competency development
• Support a positive, inclusive workplace culture and effectively manage employee relations matters
• Work with the Area Manager, Finance team and other managers to manage workshop costs, budgets and reporting
• Allocate staff, vehicles and equipment efficiently to reduce downtime and maintain service quality
• Liaise with Operations, Scheduling and Depot Management to support service delivery and fleet availability
• Maintain accurate records, provide reporting on fleet condition and performance, and support internal and regulatory audits
• Drive compliance with WHS, HSEQ and company policies, including incident investigation, hazard reporting and continuous improvement initiatives

You will also have:

• Demonstrated experience leading and developing a workshop team with varying skill levels and experience
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Experience managing budgets, forecasts, expenditure and cost control
• Strong recordkeeping skills and confidence using fleet management systems and Microsoft Office
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across the business
•  A strong customer service mindset and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
• A proven commitment to HSEQ/AMS compliance and building a positive safety culture
• A relevant trade qualification in heavy vehicles
•  A valid HR class licence and current Driver Accreditation
