Marine Training Manager

SeaLink North Queensland is seeking a Marine Training Manager to join our leadership team in Townsville.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Marine Operations Manager, the Marine Training Manager is responsible for leading crew training, competency management, safety compliance and workforce development across SeaLink North Queensland marine operations.

To be successful in this role, you will hold a Master <35m Certificate of Competency and possess strong marine engineering knowledge and practical vessel maintenance experience, together with extensive maritime operational experience and proven leadership capabilities.

 

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Lead the development and delivery of crew training, inductions and competency programs.
  • Monitor, review and audit crew competencies and compliance requirements.
  • Effectively build, manage and motivate teams in the delivery of high-standard passenger and charter services.
  • Conduct crew assessments, mentoring and ongoing professional development.
  • Drive safety, compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Fulfil Master and/or Engineering responsibilities when necessary to fulfil operational requirements
  • Coordinate safety drills, emergency preparedness training and operational audits.
  • Review and improve operational procedures, SOPs and Safety Management Systems.
  • Prepare training, compliance and safety performance reports.
  • Work closely with the Maintenance Manager to ensure the vessel fleet remains seaworthy, compliant and maintained to the highest operational standards.

 

ABOUT YOU

 

Essential Qualifications

  • Master <35m Certificate of Competency
  • MED 1 or MED 2 Certificate
  • Marine Radio Operator Certificate of Proficiency
  • First Aid & Advanced Resuscitation

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Certificate IV Training and Assessment or equivalent
  • Certificate IV Workplace Health and Safety or equivalent

Experience & Skills

  • Extensive operational experience as a Vessel Master together with practical marine engineering experience, enabling effective oversight of vessel operations, crew competency, maintenance activities, risk management and fleet safety performance.
  • Experience operating high-speed passenger vessels.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and crew development capability.
  • Sound understanding of marine legislation, WHS obligations and Safety Management Systems.
  • Experience using HELM or similar competency management systems is desirable.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to pass a SeaLink pre-employment medical.
