Full Time SeaLink Marine & Tourism - Sydney Harbour Captain Cook Cruises Sydney

Marine Maintenance Technician

Captain Cook Cruises, The Jackson and the Starship Group are looking for an experienced, trade-qualified mechanic to join our shore-based Fleet Maintenance team on Sydney Harbour.

We encourage you to apply!

About the Role

Part of the Kelsian Group, SeaLink Sydney operates a fleet of well-known vessels on Sydney Harbour including The Jackson, Starship Sydney and Sydney 2000. We're after a self-motivated Marine Maintenance Technician with a broad skill base — someone who works confidently on their own and is happy to guide less experienced team members.

Reporting to the Head of Fleet Maintenance you'll keep the fleet safe, compliant and operational: carrying out planned and breakdown maintenance, supporting on-board crew and contractors, and taking the lead on the more complex technical problems.

A typical day may include

  • Servicing, diagnostics and repairs across a fleet of ferries, charter and commercial vessels (12–63 m)
  • Routine and breakdown maintenance — mechanical, welding, plumbing and general engineering
  • Heavy diesel engines (Scania, Perkins, Gardiner, Cummins) and auxiliary systems (air-conditioning, refrigeration, pumps, hydraulics, sullage)
  • Electrical and instrumentation work, dry dock works (propeller and shaft), hull structures and fittings
  • Mentoring junior team members and sharing technical expertise
  • Solving technical problems independently, often under pressure and to tight deadlines

About You

  • Trade qualification in a mechanical or marine engineering
  • Proven experience on commercial vessels — diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems
  • Confident working independently with minimal supervision
  • Able to step up and guide less experienced tradespeople
  • Safety conscious and well-versed in marine WHS practices
  • Reliable, proactive and professional across all levels of the business
  • Willing to work flexible hours as needed to support vessel operations

How to Apply

Click APPLY and fill in as much information as you can in the track record section of the application, paying close attention to each question.

We are requesting your resume and a cover letter explaining why you are the best person for this position.

Applications close by 5pm on Friday 11th September 2026
